1950 Bowman Baseball Card Set Guide
Set Description
In 1950, Bowman made a big change to the design of their cards. Instead of using real photographs, they used color art reproductions of photographs. This change led to some vibrant images. The fronts do not contain the name of the player, just the color reproduction. Backs contain standard information such as player name, biography, and team. Bowman also increased the size of the set from 240 to 252. The set contains all the major stars from that time frame, although the world was still 1 year away from Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays being included. The most valuable cards in the set are Jackie Robinson and Ted Williams. Bob Feller, Warren Spahn, Pee Wee Reese, Yogi Berra, and Duke Snider are also included. Unlike most other sets from the 1950s, cards in series 1 and 2 (#1-72) are scarer and more valuable than the "high number" later series.
